Standard 6

Engage In Professional Learning

6.1 Identify and plan professional learning needs

PROFICIENT: Use the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and advice from colleagues to identify and plan professional learning needs.

ANNOTATION AND EVIDENCE

The evidence for this focus area consists of a chart for professional learning goals that all teaching staff completed at my previous school. This is my copy with my goals.

For records of engagement in PD courses and professional learning activities, please see Standard 7.4. The DELF study and exam was specifically linked to Standard 2.1, as I wished to spend more time teaching and communicating in the target language.

6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice

PROFICIENT: Participate in learning to update knowledge and practice, targeted to professional needs and school and/or system priorities.

ANNOTATION AND EVIDENCE

Please see additional certificates of professional learning, Std 7.4., including the DELF Certificate.

One of the chief ways I improved my French was through a subscription to Français Authentique.

6.3 Engage with Colleagues & Improve Practice

PROFICIENT: Contribute to collegial discussions and apply constructive feedback from colleagues to improve professional knowledge and practice.

ANNOTATION AND EVIDENCE

There are two pieces of evidence for this focus area.

The first is a photograph of me taking part in a panel of professionals to discuss music performance at the 2018 Sydney Chamber Music Festival, which indicates part of my contribution to collegial discussions. This was a public event and the photos have been shared publicly by the director of the festival, Bridget Bolliger. Pictured from left to right are: Andrew West (pianist), Deborah Humble (mezzo), Amanda Cole (performance researcher and mezzo), Guy Noble (conductor and radio personality).

The second piece of evidence is an email conversation I had with a colleague who sent an email to me late one evening during a very stressful part of the term. My response shows how I defused the situation and responded constructively to the feedback/request.

6.4 Apply professional learning and improve student learning

PROFICIENT: Undertake professional learning programs designed to address identified student learning needs.

ANNOTATION AND EVIDENCE

Please refer to evidence of some of the professional learning undertaken since graduation (Std 7.4).

To the right is evidence of a trip I made to Sweden in December 2022 to observe and study with choral director Karin Skogberg-Ankarmo.
